Today, April 12th, was a prime example of the element of unexpected catches in the Gulf of Mexico. While trout fishing with corks and whitebait, Melenda hooked what we thought was a shark. As it got closer, we realized it was a Cobia! The fight went on for about 5 minutes with a 7 foot medium rod. What a blast!

Today, April 2nd, a last minute trip opportunity presented itself. I received a call from subscriber of my YouTube channel who saw my business card hanging in a bait shop and called about a last minute two hour trip booking. He had caught snook, redfish, and trout before so but Tarpon were new to him. I made sure to let him know that Tarpon are very finicky eaters and hit or miss but his mind was set on catching one. We set out with only a handful of leftover bait and found them rolling everywhere. After about 15 minutes, one finally ate our bait. The fight went on for what felt like 5 minutes but was probably only a few minutes. After 4 jumps and tiring this fish out, I grabbed the Tarpon firmly with two hands. A 39 and a half inch tarpon for Charles. His first one caught on a spur of the moment fishing trip. Thanks for giving me the call and congrats on your first Tarpon.

Today, April 2nd, I had a 4 hour inshore fishing trip with a local resident of the New Port Richey area named Don. Don’s favorite fish to catch was snook so we started the day out early and used live whitebait to catch snook for the first couple hours of incoming. Then, we ended up catching a few smaller redfish back in the creek toward the end of the trip. Right at the end of the trip, we decided to see if the Tarpon were active and rolling. They were, so we decided to give it a last shot at a homerun. 10 minutes into fishing, we hooked the biggest Tarpon that I personally have seen in that spot. We fought it for a few seconds before it came up, jumped, and went back down under the dock. It was still an awesome sight and fun way to end the trip. Thanks for booking Don!

Today, February 21, I took my new friends and clients named Jon and Rob out to do some classic winter-time inshore fishing in Pasco County, FL.
